Rumors are filling the DCRTV metamedia site about radio station owners shopping around their local stations. Most notably, there is talk that Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder may want out of his Red Zebra radio business and is seeking to unload his Triple X ESPN Radio-branded outlets.
The Triple X concept has generally been a disappointment. Snyder has been unsuccessful to date in buying a stronger local signal or in gaining approval to upgrade one of his current weaker ones. In response to listener outrage, Snyder made Redskins broadcasts for 2007 available to a non-Triple X local station (WBIG/100.3) on an affiliate basis.
In the radio business as in many things, the simplest solution for one's troubles is usually the best one. For Dan Snyder's radio travails, the simplest solution may just be an outside player like Disney buying out Triple X for new Radio Disney affiliates. Radio Disney has wanted in this market for a long time and isn't all that particular about signal strength.
