Ex-WMAL-630 radio host Chris Core was hired this week by Bonneville-owned WTOP-103.5 radio to contribute minute long commentaries for the station. The politically oriented segments called "Core Values" will premiere on the afternoon of Thursday, May 1, replacing Mike Buchanan's generally non-political musings.
Core became known for an increasingly conservative point of view as WMAL shifted from a general format to a right-wing talk station. While Core kept a significant audience, severe budget cutting from new WMAL owner Citadel Broadcasting eventually resulted in Core's unceremonious release.
The possibility of Core getting his own talk show on sister station 3WT (WWWT/1500/107.7) has also been floated, notes the Washington Post, though no such program has been signed as of yet. My own profound differences with Core's perspective notwithstanding, 3WT could stand to use more local, relevant content.
