A minor earthquake, registered at a microscopically low 1.8, rocked the Northern Virginia area at about 1:30 p.m. this Tuesday afternoon. The epicenter was located near Annandale, Virginia in Fairfax County according to the U.S. Geological Survey. To date, no reports of damage or injuries have come out nor should they be expected, truth be known.
The quake was originally confused with planned blasting, set for later Tuesday, associated with the expansion of the Fort Belvoir military base. Some residents reported hearing a loud boom followed by rumbling (or vice versa), which would have seemed like more than the 1.8 scale event actually recorded.
