The Washington Redskins took the measure of the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night to win the 2008 Hall of Fame Game, 30-16. Washington was propelled by a sterling second half performance from third-string quarterback Colt Brennan who went 9 for 10 and two touchdown passes against the Colts' reserves. Brennan should see his club standing solidified with the result. Labels: colt brennan, hall of fame game, jason campbell, jim zorn, pro football, sports, washington redskins
Not to be outdone, starting quarterback Jason Campbell went five completions for five passes in two opening series of work, including a quick touchdown pass just a minute plus into play. Campbell continues to progress well in the West Coast offense of new head coach Jim Zorn. Instead, it was last year's hero Todd Collins who struggled in the new scheme.
The Redskins' defensive play, without last year's coordinator Gregg Williams, also started below its previous standard though Chris Horton did score two sacks and an opening onside kick recovery. That said, whether any of what happened in the preseason opener will carry over to regular season play remains an iffy proposition. The next Skins game will be the home preseason opener Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.
