The remnants of Tropical Storm Fay are set to impact the Mid-Atlantic region, including the Washington, D.C. area, over the next several days. Rains from the ex-tropical storm have already overspread North Carolina up to central Virginia as of Wednesday morning. A blocking high pressure system is slowing down the progress of the rain but it should nonetheless reach the D.C. area later Wednesday or Wednesday night.
Periods of rain showers are forecast across the area from late Wednesday through Friday or Saturday with thunderstorms also possible during the period. With the region having a rain deficit of several inches for August, any extra moisture from the Fay remnants should be a help. The only potential problem would be if the heaviest flooding rains don't stay along the Appalachians as the Baltimore Sun notes.
