Organized Minor League Baseball has ended its regular season with two Washington, D.C. area teams set to begin playoff play in their respective leagues, the Bowie Baysox in the AA level Eastern League and the Potomac Nationals in the A+ level Carolina League.
The Bowie Baysox, a longtime affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, won the title of the Eastern League's Southern Division to qualify for postseason play. The Baysox will face the divisional second place Akron Aeros in a best of five Eastern League semifinal series.
The Potomac Nationals, based in Woodbridge, won both halves of the season in the Carolina League's Northern Division to make the postseason for the first time as a Washington Nationals affiliate. The Wilmington Blue Rocks will oppose the P-Nats in a best of five semifinal series. Last year's champion Frederick Keys did not qualify for the postseason.
Meanwhile, independent league play continues with the expansion Southern Maryland Blue Crabs still in playoff contention for an Atlantic League bid.
