While attention was distracted elsewhere this early week by Hurricane Gustav, the new Tropical Storm Hanna emerged as a threat to the U.S. East Coast. Hanna remains nearly stationary or drifting as of late Tuesday but is expected to eventually strengthen back to hurricane status and strike late week somewhere along the southeast U.S. coast.
The concern expressed by Capital Weather Gang is that a rapid track northward after landfall could threaten heavy tropical rains, strong winds and or scattered severe storms & tornadoes in the Washington, D.C. area by late Friday or Saturday. Hanna could still be a minimal tropical storm or tropical depression by the time it reaches the Mid-Atlantic region.
Not to belabor the obvious at this point but the Hanna situation will bear further watching as the week progresses.
