An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect to 1 pm Sunday, February 1, 2026 including the following jurisdictions.

MARYLAND: western Allegany, Garrett.
VIRGINIA: western Highland.
WEST VIRGINIA: western Grant, western Mineral, western Pendleton.

…EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON…

WHAT…Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below.

WHERE…In Maryland, Eastern Garrett, Extreme Western Allegany, and Western Garrett Counties. In Virginia, Western Highland County. In West Virginia, Western Grant, Western Mineral, and Western Pendleton Counties.

WHEN…Until 1 PM EST this afternoon.

IMPACTS…Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
