An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect to 10 am Sunday, February 8, 2026 including the following jurisdictions.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MARYLAND: Baltimore, Baltimore City, Cecil, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Montgomery, Howard, Harford.
VIRGINIA: Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, northern Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park.

…EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST THIS MORNING…

WHAT…Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero.

WHERE…Portions of DC, central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and northern Virginia.

WHEN…Until 10 AM EST this morning.

IMPACTS…The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Wind chills are expected to remain below zero through late this morning. Being outdoors for a prolonged period of time will be life-threatening.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

If you do not have heat in your home or lack shelter, you can call 211 or visit or visit your local county or city website for assistance locating appropriate shelter from the cold.

WHAT…Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 19 below.

WHERE…Portions of western Maryland, central, northwest, and western Virginia, and eastern West Virginia.

WHEN…Until 10 AM EST this morning.

IMPACTS…The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
