An Extreme Cold Watch remains in effect from 4 am Saturday, February 7 to 10 am Sunday, February 8, 2026 including the following jurisdictions.
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MARYLAND: Washington, Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Cecil, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Howard, Harford.
VIRGINIA: Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren, Clarke, Rappahannock, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, northern Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park.
WEST VIRGINIA: Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson, Hardy.

WHAT…Dangerously cold wind chills between 0 and 15 below zero possible.
WHERE…Washington DC, and portions of central, north central, northeast, and northern Maryland, northern, northwest, and western Virginia, and eastern West Virginia.
WHEN…From late Friday night through Sunday morning.
IMPACTS…The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Wind chills will remain at or below zero during the day on Saturday due to windy conditions and cold temperatures.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

WHAT…For the High Wind Watch, northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero possible.
WHERE…In Maryland, Central and Eastern Allegany County. In Virginia, Eastern Highland County. In West Virginia, Eastern Grant, Eastern Mineral, and Eastern Pendleton Counties.

IMPACTS…Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause hypothermia and frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
