A Flood Watch remains in effect to 10 pm Saturday, July 19, 2025 including the following jurisdictions.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MARYLAND: Prince George’s, central/southeast Montgomery.
VIRGINIA: Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria.

…FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

WHAT…Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

WHERE…Portions of DC, including the following , District of Columbia, central Maryland, including the following areas, Central and Southeast Montgomery and Prince Georges, and northern Virginia, including the following areas, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria and Fairfax.

WHEN…Until 10 PM EDT this evening.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– Showers and thunderstorms have formed over portions of the D.C. metro as of 445 PM. These thunderstorms are producing instantaneous rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour, with locally higher amounts. These storms are forecasted to remain nearly stationary over the next few hours, which may result in flash flooding over sensitive and urban areas. Total rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible in the most persistent storms.

WHEN…Until 10 PM EDT this evening.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

– Radar observed ongoing showers and thunderstorms across the northern portions of the DC metro. These thunderstorms are producing instantaneous rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour, with locally higher amounts. These storms are forecasted to remain nearly stationary over the next few hours, which may result in flash flooding over sensitive and urban areas. Total rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are possible in the most persistent storms, with a worst case scenario of 5 to 7 inches.

In northern Virginia, Culpeper, Southern Fauquier and Stafford. In northwest Virginia, Madison, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge and Rappahannock. In western Virginia, Augusta and Rockingham.

WHERE…Portions of east central, eastern, north central, and southeast Virginia, including the following areas, in east central Virginia, Eastern Essex, Eastern King William, Eastern King and Queen, Richmond, Western Essex, Western King William, Western King and Queen and Westmoreland. In eastern Virginia, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex and Northumberland. In north central Virginia, Caroline. In southeast Virginia, Gloucester.

WHEN…Until midnight EDT tonight.

IMPACTS…Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
