WHAT…For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills of 15 to 30 below zero.
WHERE…In Maryland, Eastern Garrett and Extreme Western Allegany Counties. In Virginia, Central Virginia Blue Ridge and Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, and Western Highland County. In West Virginia, Western Grant, Western Mineral, and Western Pendleton Counties.
WHEN…For the Extreme Cold Warning, until 10 AM EST Sunday. For the High Wind Warning, until 10 PM EST this evening.
IMPACTS…Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive.
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
