A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect Thursday, May 15, 2025 to 12 am including the following jurisdictions.
VIRGINIA: Albemarle, Charlottesville, Greene, Nelson, Orange, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, Madison, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Augusta, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Highland, Rockingham, Caroline.
WEST VIRGINIA: Hardy, Pendleton.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
North-Central/Northeast North Carolina
Central and Eastern Virginia
Far Eastern West Virginia
Coastal Waters
Effective this Thursday afternoon from 505 PM until Midnight EDT.
Primary threats include…
Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
SUMMARY…Thunderstorm coverage is expected to increase over the next few hours. Environmental conditions across the region favor a cellular mode, including the potential for supercells capable of large to very large hail. Some damaging gusts are possible as well.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 90 statute miles east and west of a line from 55 miles north of Lynchburg VA to 40 miles south southwest of Roanoke Rapids NC. For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU4).

REMEMBER…A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
