A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect to 10 pm Friday, May 16, 2025 including the following jurisdictions.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MARYLAND: Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Calvert, Carroll, Charles, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s, Washington, Cecil.
VIRGINIA: Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, Winchester, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick, King George, Loudoun, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Stafford, Warren.
WEST VIRGINIA: Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Mineral, Morgan.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

Western and Central Maryland
Southwest and South-Central Pennsylvania

Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 220 PM until 1000 PM EDT.

Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY…Thunderstorm coverage is expected to increase across the region this afternoon. Environmental conditions support strong to severe storms capable of damaging gust and large hail.

MARYLAND: Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Worcester.
VIRGINIA: Westmoreland, Caroline.

Far Eastern Maryland
Northern North Carolina
Southern and Eastern Virginia
Coastal Waters

Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 330 PM until 1100 PM EDT.

Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
Scattered large hail events to 1 inch in diameter possible

SUMMARY…A line of thunderstorms is expected to move into south-central VA and northwest NC over the next hour or two. This line is then expected to continue eastward across the remainder of southern/eastern NC and northern NC this afternoon/evening. Some cellular development is possible ahead of this line as well. Environmental conditions support the potential for hail and damaging gusts.

Effective this Friday afternoon from 435 PM until Midnight EDT.

Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY…Ongoing cluster of storms upstream across south-central PA and central MD is expected to continue eastward into the moderately buoyant and sheared airmass from far eastern MD and far southeastern PA into southern NJ and DE. Some of the stronger storms could produce large hail and/or damaging gusts.

SUMMARY…Thunderstorms continue to strengthen as they move into more of eastern PA and eastern MD. Destabilization is expected downstream, with the resulting combination of instability and shear supportive of supercells capable of large hail and damaging gusts.
