A Tornado Warning is in effect to 7:45 pm Friday, May 16, 2025 including the following jurisdictions.

VIRGINIA: south central Rockingham, northwestern Albemarle, east central Augusta.

South central Rockingham County in western Virginia…
Northwestern Albemarle County in central Virginia…
East central Augusta County in western Virginia…

Until 745 PM EDT.

At 711 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Grottoes, or 14 miles southeast of Harrisonburg, moving southeast at 15 mph.

HAZARD…Tornado and ping pong ball size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT…For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is likely.

This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of south central Rockingham, northwestern Albemarle and east central Augusta Counties, including the following locations… White Hall.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

At 648 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Stanardsville, or 15 miles west of Madison, moving southeast at 20 mph.

HAZARD…Tornado and quarter size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT…For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is likely.

Stanardsville around 655 PM EDT.
